Shouldn't have answered the phone just now

i just answered the phone and it didn't phase me that caller id did not tell me who was calling.

well, it was an elder.... he wanted to know the usual interogation crap, where i've been, have i gone to the dc yet, when am i going, i will love it, etc, typical bullshit.

then he says, "i noticed you haven't turned in any time for last month, do you have any to report?

I can also attest to the "elder fatique" that happens, they have so many people who are hounding them after every meeting with family problems or depression problems, (I saw on several occasions elder's having to get a ride home with someone else because their family gave up and drove home because elder was stuck talking to another member of the flock who was having an emergency), not to mention all the talks they have to write and deliver, all the BS meetings, and luckily the elder assigned to me also is a sucessful businessman which means that he is busy going overseas and taking family vacations-

thus after a few tries to call me (yes I have his cell, home, and business number on my caller-id) he gives up

but the circuit overseer visit is comming soon (end of August I think), that is when the elders get a veral-beating from the CO about going after the flock that have become inactive, yada yada- that is when I think they will strike again

then I'm not sure what the next step will be for them,

Got a DC invite in my door last week!

i got one shoved under my door and i even have a "no trespassing" sign on my door what the heck???.

i thought they couldn't leave literature if there was a no trespassing sign posted???

am i wrong?.

undercover, yea..I threw the invite away after tearing into bits- it was just curious to me because everyone always made a big deal in our Hall about "no trespassing" signs- they would say that the society could be sued for violating those signs and that would bring reproach upon Jehovah, yada yada BS BS.

wasblind, I do not think you are paranoid-someone in your cong wanted to make a point in a passive-agressive way- yuck..

everyone in my Hall knows where I live, so personally I think it was left there knowingly "to reach me". The car group probably smiled all day at the possibility that because they left that invite in my door I would be moved to tears and come running back to Jehovah's organization

Now versus 7 Years Ago.....

we have been out of the organization since 1-1-2004 - at least that is the way we mark it to remember.

we began to read ray's books in late fall/early winter of 2003 - a thousand pages later and a few weeks - viola - we were out to never return.. i was contemplating just how significantly i have personally changed in that period of time - not the stages, though there have been many stages.

but the raw contrast of my opinions, moral stance, and view of the world is amazing.

Yes, I too once would have been standing and clapping at the end of a district convention to another boring speech (there were very few times I was actually "moved" by the talks) I also lived and breathed the organization, and now that I also am embarking on a whole new unrecognizable life- I breath deep and am releaved to be living a life on my terms for the first time ever...

Weird JW response to death?

so i just learned on another thread that there are adults who have never been to a funeral, not that that's a bad thing.

makes me wonder because i got dragged to one at 6, and i still remember how i felt, what song we sang- and who i was sitting next to (an adult, not my mother for some reason) who helped me to stand up to sing the song because i was so distraught.

is it a jw thing to make kids go to funerals?.

You know Serenity, I hadn't thought about it until you brought it up... but yes, my mom had unusual responces to death. She never cried once at her JW mom's funeral or her non-JW mother-in law's funeral.

But once about 7 years ago a man in our congregation killed himself on a Saturday night. He was a very quiet man who was baptized a JW a few years prior. The next day was Sunday meeting of course, and so when I got to the meeting and saw Mom, I told her what happened...she started shrieking and sobbing..one of the elders tried to comfort her but she wouldn't listen to them. I sat through the meeting in the ladies room with her sobbing, I felt HORRIBLE for being so insensitive, I had no idea she would react that way. I still feel like an a** hole for that.

She has not done that since, and subsequent JW funerals that I have been to since there has been no outward emotion expressed by her.

I still to this day have no idea why that one brother bothered her so...

It is clear Serenity that our mom's do have emotional damage done due to the mind-conditioning all of us have been through as JW's, but our mom's do not have an outlet to deal with that mental damage, and mine definately will not go to a professional. I am sorry for your experience,

For those growing up with a non-JW parent

just curious to hear from those that have gone through a similar situation.

my dad was extremely opposed to jw's and went balistic when my mom converted.

he did everything in his power to keep us from becoming witnesses, (forcing us to stay home from meetings, forcing us to go to church with him on holidays) but i think that worked against him, because we viewed it as persecution.. here is my question though.

Yes, my experience is similar to many of yours

My dad got baptized in the 1950's in order to marry my mom, he stopped going shortly after that. My dad never opposed us violently, but just said little things which signaled his disapproval.

Mom had me pray every night that my dad would come back to the truth as a child. She was bitter and angry with dad (I think stemming back to her disappointment with his non-comittal to the Borg) They faught constantly, she always pointed out the root of their problems as the fact that they were "a divided household". Whenever I was not invited to a get together or over to other JW's houses to play, she blamed it on the fact that my dad wasn't in the truth. She made me see him as the villan, so I treated him with little respect. He tried to reason with me the only way he could, encouraging college & getting out when I was trapped in the Borg "unable to remarry"- but I didn't listen.

Cant take it back now, can only control my future actions

Maybe I will try too to tell dad that I'm sorry before it is too late

Feeling really sad

my husband and i have been married for almost 10 years.

we were married really young, and tried to make the best of it.

recently, i began listening to my lingering doubts and realized i've been so unhappy because i was living a lie.

I feel for you too- I married to a JW at 19 too and your experience brought back so many feelings...I hope you too can maybe try some marriage counseling and try to strengthen your bond- my marriage is long over now, but I hope for your family's sake if there is still love there that you two can build each other up

Does it sound like a "cop out" when...

one of my really good jw friends (which now means he can no longer be my friend) came into the shop i work in today with two other jw's to buy some guitar strings and things- i could tell he was uncomfortable walking in the shop (he hesitated at the door) and i was on the phone so i couldn't wait on them personally so all i could think of to do is make a smart ass comment about his hair cut.. they made their purchase & walked out we smiled and waved to each other.. he obviously did not buy anything and they all know where i work, so he just came in to check me out (not in a flirty way).. he has always been a bit on the "edge" when it comes to jw practices (watches r rated movies, listens to "bad" music, drinks, and he does text me occasionally to talk about music and un-jw related subjects).

should i have tried to reach him with the truth about the truth?.

i ponder this question lately with some of my loved ones so i will ask you all........ if i could be reached by talking rationally with me to look further into the religion i was blindly following- should i try reaching someone i care about?.

Mad- lol, yea I picked Coffee House Girl because visiting the local coffee house talking with "worldly people" is what started to put those "links in the JW chain" & got me to start thinking. I thought it was symbolic of me leaving, and now no jdubs in my old cong will go in the coffee ship- I guess they caught on to the fact that coffee shops are satan's means of getting people to leave the truth.

And the local coffee shop is where I met and started talking to coffee shop guy (the shop owner). He subsequently chose his name based on mine.
